How accurate is this calculator?
It gives a planning budget with a ±20% range – good enough to decide your material level and compare options. It is not a quote. An exact fixed price needs a site visit: we measure, check the space, and price your exact products.
Where do the material prices come from?
From actual Home Depot Canada shelf prices, verified September 26, 2026 – for example, basic porcelain tile $3.94/sq ft. Flooring materials are priced about 20% below shelf (vinyl plank $3.42/sq ft).
How is the bathroom labour price calculated?
Labour is calculated automatically – nothing to tick. Tile setting is priced per square foot based on your bathroom size: $12 for small, $11 for medium, $10 for large, for both floor and walls. A full renovation also includes drywall / backer-board replacement ($4 per sq ft of wall area). Pick “Custom base shower” under Bathtub if you’re converting the tub to a shower. Removal & dump (10%) and 5% GST are added automatically. Your written quote confirms the final labour price after we see the site.
How is the flooring price calculated?
Flooring material is priced per square foot – vinyl plank $3.42, laminate $2.14, engineered hardwood $5.48 (real Home Depot Canada shelf price). Installation labour is $1.50 per square foot, plus $50 per stair if your project includes stairs. Removal of the old floor (15%) and 5% GST are included in the estimate.
Can I pick my exact products at Home Depot instead of your price levels?
Yes. Under each material you will find a “Browse at Home Depot” link – open it, pick the exact product you like, then choose “My own pick” and type in the price you found. Your estimate and your emailed quote will use your prices. If you skip this, the quote is calculated with our typical Home Depot Canada prices.
Can I buy the materials myself at Home Depot?
Yes. Many clients buy materials themselves and we handle the installation. Or we can supply everything – your choice. Either way the written quote lists every product.
What is NOT included in this estimate?
Structural repairs (rot, mold under the floor or behind walls), asbestos remediation, permit fees if the city requires them, and moving walls. If we find hidden damage during demolition, we show you photos and price the fix before continuing – no surprise charges.
